The Press Association of Jamaica (PAJ) has appointed celebrated attorney Bert Samuels as its legal advisor.

Mr. Samuels, one of the country’s eminent lawyers, became a partner in the firm of Knight, Pickersgill, Dowding and Samuels, 1989-2003. He founded and practised with the Bert S. Samuels and Company in 2003-2006. Since then, he has been a partner in the firm Knight, Junor and Samuels. His main areas of practice have been industrial relations, civil and criminal litigation.

The acclaimed attorney served as a member of the Disciplinary Committee of the General Legal Council, 1998-2003.

As legal advisor to the PAJ, Mr. Samuels will provide guidance on issues affecting the organization and its membership and will lead in litigations on behalf of the organization should the need arises.

Mr. Samuels will also play a pivotal role in efforts by the PAJ to press for changes to the archaic libel laws and the drive to establish a Media Complaints Council.
