The Press Association of Jamaica (PAJ) condemns the atrocious behaviour by the police who attempted to seize the camera of a CVM TV correspondent at the scene of a police killing in St Ann on Saturday (July 3)

We are astounded that a member of the Jamaica Constabulary Force could so blatantly attack a journalist while carrying out his legitimate duties.

The PAJ is acutely disappointed that the police continue to harass journalists in this manner, despite the police high command agreeing with the association more than a year ago to promulgate rules of engagement for members of the constabulary and media practitioners. The decision followed similar behaviour by the police towards a photojournalist covering the scene at a police killing in Half-Way Tree Square last year.

The PAJ is publicly calling on Commissioner of Police Owen Ellington to investigate the attack on the journalist on the weekend and take appropriate disciplinary action.
