The International Women’s Media Foundation (IWMF) has announced a call for applications for the 2012-2013 Elizabeth Neuffer Fellowship, open to all female journalists around the world that work with human rights and social justice coverage, according to the organization’s website. The deadline for applications is April 30.

The name of the fellowship pays homage to journalist Elizabeth Neuffer, winner of the Courage in Journalism Award from IWMF in 1998, and correspondent for the Boston Globe who died in May 2003 during a mission in Iraq. The aim of the award is to support journalists in their academic research, and help them develop their journalistic ability in covering human rights and social justice topics.

The fellowship is part of the investigative program of the Center for International Studies of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). The winner will also be eligible for an internship with the newspapers The Boston Globe and The New York Times, as well as other news media.

The program will be held between September 2012 and March 2013. The fellowship covers room, board, and transportation expenses.

Applicants must be fluent in English and have three years of experience in journalism, and also have worked in news print, radio broadcasting, or digital news media. To apply, send an application form, two letters of recommendation, an English evaluation form (if your native language is not English), a resume, and three samples of your work to email: neuffer@iwmf.org.
